Solid Waste Management System from Başarsoft

Basarsoft, which has been developing integrated geographic information systems with other systems since 1997, provides citizen satisfaction, quality and efficiency in garbage collection, by using digital map-based technologies with the Solid Waste Management Project which has developed for municipalities.

In the project developed by Basarsoft within the scope of municipal garbage collection services, the location of each garbage container was marked on digital maps, and it was determined which vehicle to go to which container and which route in an optimum way. Then, a web-based system was implemented, which tracks which container was emptied by which vehicle and when, thanks to the RFID tags attached to the containers. Within this scope, RFID readers in garbage trucks were integrated into the ContainX software implemented by Basarsoft, with GPS and internet connection. All container data automatically transferred to ContainX software via garbage tucks started to be displayed on map instantly. All data coming from field with coordinate informations, is reported on the map via ContainX automatically.

25 percent savings were achieved with digital map-based route optimization

Within the scope of the project, the route optimization of garbage trucks was made, resulting in a 25% reduction in fuel use and distance travelled. While 110 kilometers were covered before, this distance has been reduced to 70 kilometers by using developed smart maps and route optimization algorithms. However, due to the unforeseen obstacles encountered in the field, 81 kilometers were realized and 25% savings were achieved.

Citizens are informed about the collection of their garbage if they want.

One of the interesting aspects of the project is that the citizens who wish are aware of the system.

Citizens who want to be informed about the stages of the garbage collection system can easily register their mobile phone numbers in the system and, shortly before the garbage collection, they are automatically informed by the system that their garbage is about to be collected.

A more effective work force management is provided.

Through the system installed, the instant locations of the trucks, the locations of the garbage containers and when they were emptied their weight at the time of unloading can be tracked and recorded.

Each container can be matched with the building it belongs to on the web-based digital map, thus controlling the container displacement. For example, during the pilot study, upon the complaint of a citizen whose bin was lost in front of his door, the place where the trash can was carried by another citizen was determined without searching the field and the bin was taken to its original place.

By avoiding the uneven distribution of the garbage cans, regions where the trash cans are more than necessary are determined, it is ensured that the distribution of containers throughout the city is carried out more effectively.
